What is Agent Orange Awareness Day?
On August 10th each year, Agent Orange Awareness Day provides information about the effects of Agent Orange. This holiday serves as a reminder of the lasting damage that one decision can cause. The U.S. military used Agent Orange in the Vietnam War to clear thick foliage from battlegrounds. It created a protective ground cover that made it harder for enemies to hide. If you are exposed to a certain chemical, you may have a wide range of medical issues. These include: AL amyloidosis, diabetes mellitus, type II, Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkins lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, Parkinson's disease, prostate cancer, respiratory cancer, soft tissue sarcoma. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provides a registry to help vets and their families receive treatment for Agent Orange exposure. The U.S. used Agent Orange in the Vietnam War, and it continues to affect survivors today. Agent Orange exposure cost hundreds of thousands of lives and continues to impact survivors today.

History of Agent Orange Awareness Day
Fifty years ago, Agent Orange was used in Vietnam. This was on August 10, 1961. In 1988, the US began Agent Orange Awareness Day as a way to reach veterans who may have been exposed to Agent Orange. The campaign informed the country through newspaper and radio messages encouraging veterans to seek out programs for assistance with health issues such as cancer and other diseases.
