Anosmia Awareness Day - 2022-02-27

What is Anosmia Awareness Day?
Anosmia is an invisible disability. People who are born without the sense of smell can experience life differently. They remember fewer smells, feel less empathy, and don't get the same reaction to social atmospheres.
There is currently no known cure for congenital anosmia. If you have acquired anosmia, it may be improved or cured when the underlying cause is treated. For example, if the cause is swelling in your nose or sinuses, steroids could clear it up and restore your sense of smell.
Anosmia is not a disease; it is a condition that causes people to lose their sense of smell. The most common causes of anosmia include colds, allergies, sinus infections, and poor air quality. There are also other possible causes such as nasal polyps, which are noncancerous growths in the nose and sinuses that block the nasal passage. Other causes include injury to the nose and its smell nerves from surgery or head trauma.
