On July 4th, the United States celebrates its independence from Great Britain in 1776. For over 250 years, this day has been a symbol of freedom for the people of the United States. On this day, families and friends gather for large picnics, barbecues, and parties. Many areas also have festivals and other fun events for the whole family. No matter where you are, the 4th of July is when you will be able to find something fun and exciting to do with your day.
Independence Day has been observed since July of 1777, the first anniversary of the independence. In 1938, July 4th became a recognised federal holiday.
