“Who runs the world? Girls!” These are familiar lyrics from a popular Beyonce song. Girls have the power to do remarkable things. Given the opportunity, little girls can become whatever they want to be. They can be doctors, teachers, scientists, entertainers, and mothers. The choice is theirs. We need to give them the tools they need to achieve greatness. Girls in many countries do not have the same resources and educational opportunities as their male counterparts. International Day of the Girl Child aims to highlight the issues that girls face because of their gender. For girls to succeed, we need to break gender-based barriers and work together to achieve equality for all genders. On International Day of the Girl Child this year, become a mentor to a little girl.
