National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day is a celebration of the people who work behind the scenes to maintain the safety of the passengers. Without them, we would not be able to fly. While their job is far less glamorous than other professions in aviation, pilots for example, they are just as important. Without the maintenance team, the plains would not even leave the ground.
Through the efforts of Richard Dilbeck, in 2001, the FAA created the prestigious Charles E. Taylor Master Mechanic Award to honor AMTs, who had served at least 50 years in aircraft maintenance. The following year, California Senator Knight introduced a resolution honoring Aviation Maintenance Technicians annually in honor of Charles Taylor’s birthday.
