Baked Alaska, also known as Bombe Alaska, omelette norvégienne, omelette surprise, or omelette sibérienne depending on the country, is a dessert consisting of ice cream and cake topped with browned meringue. The modern history of Baked Alaska begins in 1867, when it was invented by a chef at Antoine's Restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana. The chef named it after the acquisition of Alaska by the United States on March 10 that year.
