What is National Barber Shop Quartet Day?
The first barbershop quartet was recorded in 1881, and they sang to the customers waiting for haircuts. April 11 is National Barbershop Quartet Day, and we have all the information you need to make this day a musical one. Just like its name suggests, this type of music was first documented in the late 1800s while men waited to get their hair cut. Barbershops are great places for people to hang out and relax. The men who go to barbershops love to sing, so they started harmonizing with each other. Today, barbershop music is extremely popular and has even made it into movies and television. If you want to be a part of this great tradition, you can join a barbershop quartet. In the early 1900s, a style of music called barbershop was born. It was a popular genre for African American men who socialized with barbers and others while waiting to get their hair cut. They sang and harmonized for entertainment. In 1910, a song called ‘Play That Barbershop Chord’ was released by the barbershop quartet the Peerless Quartet.
