October 23rd has been dubbed National Boston Cream Pie Day. But even though it’s called a pie, it’s really a cake. And it’s named after the city of Boston, even though it has nothing to do with the city. It’s also filled with custard, which is kind of like pudding, but not exactly. Confused? Don’t be! This dessert is beloved by millions, and we’re sure you’ In 1856, this French chef, Augustine Francois Anezin, created this cake and pudding combination at the famous Parker House Hotel in Boston. The classic Boston cream pie is a delicious dessert. It consists of two layers of vanilla-flavored sponge cake filled with custard or creme patisserie. The top layer is a thick layer of chocolate glaze, such as ganache or powdered sugar and a cherry. In 1996, Massachusetts declared the Boston cream pie as their official dessert.

National Boston Cream Pie Day is celebrated on October 23.
