National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day - 2021-10-13
What is National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day?
We've all snuggled up to a Teddy Bear at some time in our lives. When you're sick, scared or needing support, your Teddy Bear is there for you. On National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day, brings encouragement to those that need help in troubled times. The idea of this national day is to support and comfort people at work, while also entertaining children at school. But, do you know why we have Teddy Bears in the first place? In 1902, former President Theodore Roosevelt refused to hunt a bear cub while on a hunting trip in Mississippi. His defence of the bear cub made national news. Clifford Berryman drew a cartoon of the event for the Washington Post on November 16th and the depiction of Teddy Roosevelt became a cultural icon. Toymaker Morris Michtom created a new toy, a bear cub, for children. He wrote to President Roosevelt to ask permission to name the new toy "Teddy Bear." Bring your Teddy Bear to work and school on this fun and special day, and share your favorite Teddy Bear on social media with #NationalBringYourTeddyBeartoWorkandSchoolDay.
