What is National Caramel Day? If you love caramel, you'll want to know all about this special day. It's celebrated on April 5th each year, and it's great news for caramel lovers everywhere. This versatile candy adds creamy, delicious flavor to desserts, pastries, and candies. Caramels are made by heating a simple sugar solution until it reaches the desired color. The process was well-known in the seventeenth century when women used it to produce candies. These simple treats could be mass-produced inexpensively, so they were added to various recipes. The year was 1850. Someone discovered that adding a special ingredient to a cooked sugar mixture resulted in a delicious, soft candy. It should be no surprise how quickly caramel candy became popular.
