On March 7th, every year, you must get yourself a bowl and spoon ready for National Cereal Day! Ever since the end of the 19th century, cereal has been the most popular breakfast food in America. The cereal industry was born out of a combination of faith and commercial interests. John Harvey Kellogg experimented with granola, boiled some wheat, rolled it into thin films, and baked the resulting flakes in the oven. In 1891, he patented this process and launched Cornflakes. This overnight captured a national market. Cereal is more than just a breakfast food anymore. It has become a popular snack, even for dinner. Bakers have taken to cereal in their recipes, too. They use it in cakes, cookies, and bars. The most popular one is Rice Crispy Treats.  

National Cereal Day is celebrated annually on the 7th of March.
