National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day - 2022-01-03
What is National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day?
1929 the first chocolate-covered–cherries made with sugar syrup and no alcohol began to be mass-produced in America to meet the increased demand. To make chocolate covered cherries, all you need is maraschino cherries, powdered sugar, salted butter, and chocolate for dipping. When these French treats were brought to the U.S., they underwent a little bit of tweaking so that Americans would enjoy them more. One major change was soaking cherries in an alcoholic liqueur before stuffing them into tiny candy shaped molds and baking at high temperatures for hours on end! These days non-alcoholic versions are also available which can be found around town if you're looking for something sweet without any "kick."
