Ah, the cupcake! A sweet mini cake that is enjoyed by millions all around the world. Cupcakes were first mentioned in 1796 by Amelia Simmons in her American Cookery recipe book. She referred to cupcakes as “cake to be baked in small cups.”
The term cupcake was finally used to describe these “cakelets” in a cookbook by Eliza Leslie in 1828. And so, our favorite birthday treat was born. Cupcakes come in assorted flavors and colors, iced, or glazed. They are ideal for a children’s birthday party or a dessert for after dinner.
Celebrate National Chocolate Cupcake Day by baking a batch of cupcakes for a friend or family member to enjoy. Host a tea party and show off your baking skills. Share pictures of your creations or your favorite recipe on social media using #ChocCupcakeDay.
