Coolers are so much more than just a "cold box". They're incredibly useful in emergency situations to keep food cool and fresh in areas without power, they're used to carry organs for transplants, and various other uses. That is to say, they deserve the appreciation they get on this national day.

The Friday before Memorial Day serves as an honour to the summer staple, the cooler box.

An outdoor supplies company called RTIC Warehouse founded this national holiday as a way to recognise the summer essential that is the cooler box. The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed National Cooler Day in May of 2019 to be observed the Friday before Memorial Day annually.
