Devil’s Food is different from regular chocolate cake in that the batter is made with boiling water and cocoa powder, sometimes including coffee as well, and results in a moister, airier cake. The cake is served usually with a rich chocolate frosting. If you happen to try a delicious recipe on this day, use the #DevilsFoodCakeDay to share your creations!
The origins of this day are unknown. The earliest Devil’s Food Cake recipe first appeared alongside a recipe for Angel’s Food Cake in an 1898 edition of the Hagerstown Exponent of Hagerstown, Indiana.
