National Earmuff Day - 2021-03-13
What is National Earmuff Day?
On March 13th, we celebrate the creation of the earmuff. It was created to keep our ears warm and we can thank it for all those fun winter activities we can do with friends and family. If you live in a cold climate, you know how important it is to keep your ears warm. Earmuffs are a great way to do that, and they were invented by a young man from Maine named Chester Greenwood. Today, we honor his invention with National Earmuff Day. Chester, who was 15 years old, was skating with his friends in the cold one day. He had big ears that were always getting cold. Chester had an idea to keep his ears warm. He went home and asked his grandmother to sew fur between loops of wire. The earmuffs worked great. Chester's family made many of them. Today, Farmington, Maine is the "Earmuff Capital of the World."
