National Empanada Day is a holiday celebrated every April 8 in the United States. It's a day to honor this delicious Latin American pastry made of dough, meat, vegetables, and even fruit. The word empanada means “to bread” in Spanish and Portuguese—as in to wrap something in bread. Empanadas are dough pockets filled with seasoned stuffings.
