FreeBSD Day commemorates a technology that many of us use on a daily basis without even realising it. FreeBSD is an open-source operating system invented in 1993. It is the basis for sites and programs such as Netflix and WhatsApp, as well as some games on the PS4.

National FreeBSD Day is observed on June 19th annually.

The FreeBSD Foundation founded this national day to recognise the programs continued effect on the world of technology and innovation. The date of June 19th was chosen as it is the official launch date anniversary of the program.
