National Glazed Spiral Ham Day - 2022-04-15
What is National Glazed Spiral Ham Day?
What is National Glazed Spiral Ham Day? This special day is to celebrate an innovative and delicious food. A gourmet looking dish often found at holiday feasts, spiral ham was invented in the basement of Harry J. Hoenselaar. In 1952, an entrepreneur from Detroit, Michigan patented not only his spiral ham slicer but also the glaze. His innovative device made it possible for the entire ham to be sliced in one continuous spiral. This perfect ham would not only taste good, but look good on the plate. This led to the creation of HoneyBaked Ham, which serves customers nationwide. While a number of companies offer spiral-cut hams, we continue to thank Harry J. Hoenselaar for making them a possibility. He patented the machine in the early '60s, and after several decades of use, the patent expired. Traditional glazed ham is a delicious way to serve ham. It is marinated in a sweet and savory glaze made of honey, sugar, and orange juice with spices to taste.
