A hat is much more than a practical device for keeping one’s head warm. As a symbol of identity, it reveals much about the wearer’s occupation, social class, cultural heritage, and personal style. Hat, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is a covering for "the head or top of the head," generally used in the plural, but also a term for a type of fabric cap. It can be made from many different materials and worn in various styles.One of the first pictorial depictions of a hat appears in a tomb painting from Thebes, Egypt, which shows a man wearing a conical straw hat, dated to around 3200 BC.

National Hat Day is celebrated every year on January 15th!

Since at least 1983, schools, libraries, and museums have observed National Hat Day.
