The Heimlich Maneuver is a choke treatment technique in which thrusts are applied to the abdomen to expel the choke hazard from the throat. This day is used to bring awareness to the importance of learning the method, and how it can be applied to animals, children, and adults.

National Heimlich Maneuver Day is observed on June 1st.
