Hemp is a plant. It is the same species of plant as cannabis, yet it contains very low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), less than 0.3%. Hemp is used to make rope, printer ink, cloth, cosmetics, wood preservative, detergents, soaps, and lighting oil. Cannabis was used by the earliest humans to make clothes, sails, and canvas. It was also used by Christopher Columbus to create life-saving ropes and sails. Cannabis was also used in art by some of history's greatest painters, including Van Gogh, Gainsborough, and Rembrandt. Levi Strauss also created his first pair of jeans out of hemp fabric.  

National Hemp Day is observed annually on February 4th!
