National K9 Veterans Day - 2021-03-13
What is National K9 Veterans Day?
March 13 is National K9 Veterans Day. It is a day set aside to honor and commemorate the service and sacrifices of American military and working dogs throughout history. Today, March 13 is commemorated as the anniversary of the beginning of the U.S. Armed Forces' K-9 program in 1942. The program was started with the intent to use dogs to protect soldiers and assist in fighting enemy forces. The rest, as they say, is history. War dogs have been around for centuries, including Sgt. Stubby, Chips, and Cairo. They are heroes who helped soldiers in World War II and the Navy SEAL team on the bin Laden raid.
