On March 14th, National Learn About Butterflies Day encourages us to look for a blur of color as butterflies migrate across the country. Each year, the celebration brings an awareness of how important butterflies are to our survival. While the days are still warm and sunny, it is a perfect time to learn something new about butterflies. They are a symbol of spring and summer. Pollinators are essential to the production of our food. Without them, our crops would not exist. As we continue to plant more native species, we’re providing for our future. Pollinators such as the monarch butterfly and the honey bee have been in decline. Scientists don’t know why this is happening. However, increasing the available habitat does help!
