What is National Maine Day?
Maine is not only a tourist haven but is also known for its Franco-American culture, unique food, and booming economy despite being small in area. Maine is famous for the abundant lobster and harvests over 60% of the total caught in the U.S. Lobsters are a valuable resource to Maine's economy. Maine has 3,478 miles of coastline, while California has 3,427. If you include all the islands, Maine has over 5,000 miles of the coast. Maine is the least densely populated U.S. state located east of the Mississippi River. The state is called the Pine Tree State because over 80% of its land area is covered in woodlands, more than any other state in the United States.
