Minnesota became the 32 nd state in the union on May 11 , 1858, and it shares its northern border with Canada. Angle Township on the north edge of Lake of the Woods makes Minnesota the northernmost state of the 48 contiguous states. It extends along the northern shore of Lake Superior. Fun facts about Minnesota  A blueberry muffin is the state muffin in Minnesota. The state muffin was adopted in 1988 and is even written into a statute. It is a very special recipe, too. Minnesota is home to many inventions that you probably use. This includes scotch tape, pop-up toasters, water skis, in-the-ear hearing aids, and grocery bags with handles. The creator of the famous 'Peanuts' comic, Charles Shulz was born in Minneapolis in 1922.
