National Oysters Rockefeller Day - 2022-01-10
What is National Oysters Rockefeller Day?
Oysters Rockefeller is made with oysters that are baked or broiled on the half-shell. Butter, parsley, other green herbs, and bread crumbs are used to make a rich sauce. Lemon wedges are typically served as garnish. The dish was named Oysters Rockefeller after John D. Rockefeller, the then-wealthiest American, for its extreme richness. Jule Alciatore, the son of Antoine Alciatore, took over his father's restaurant. In 1899 he invented Oysters Rockefeller. Inventor of Oysters Rockefeller Jules Alciatore wanted to make a dish with escargots. However, there was a shortage of French snails at the time and he had to think of other options. Oysters were local and fresh, so he used them instead.
