This day was adopted to raise awareness of the role of the pharmacist in healthcare and to further this exact role through increased community involvement of pharmacists on national and local levels. Expert in medications, pharmacists are essential to helping individuals get the most from their medication. In addition to preparing and dispensing prescriptions, pharmacists ensure medications and dosages are correct, prevent harmful drug interactions, and counsel patients on the safe and appropriate use of medications.
