National Poultry Day - 2021-03-19

What is National Poultry Day?
A day devoted to the wonderful birds that are poultry. There may be some squawking and gobbling, but that is just the nature of the beast. Start the day with scrambled eggs and turkey bacon. Eat turkey avocado sandwiches for lunch. For dinner, enjoy some fried chicken.
There are many kinds of poultry that are raised for meat and eggs. These kinds include chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, quails, and pheasants. The chicken is the most common type of poultry.
Americans have been eating chicken since the 16th century. A small flock was all that was needed to feed a family. But chickens became more popular over time, especially during World War II when there were shortages of beef and pork.
Different cooking methods work best for different chicken sizes. Roasting, baking, frying, grilling, sautéing, steaming, and broasting are all techniques used to cook poultry. The size of the chicken determines which method is best.
