Throughout their terms of Presidency, the United States Presidents are bound to have some mishaps that, in the moment, seem a little disastrous. A few days, weeks, or months later these mishaps can be quite hilarious! On National Presidential Joke Day, we recognise the humour in these situations and share some laughs over past incidences that seem much funnier once some time has passed.

National Presidential Joke Day is observed on August 11th of every year.

In 1984, President Reagan made a joke during the soundcheck for his Saturday evening broadcast that went something like this: “My fellow Americans, I’m pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.” While it was confirmed the joke was made off the record, many found it unprofessional and insensitive.
