PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, is an anxiety disorder that affects those previously in extremely traumatic situations. It is very difficult for many PTSD sufferers to live a normal and worry-free life. On National PTSD Awareness Day, we encourage the general public to educate themselves about the disorder, and to reframe their mindset when it comes to the stigma and stereotypes that they believe about PTSD.
In April of 2007, John Biel of the North Dakota National Guard took his own life after returning from his second tour of duty in Iraq. In 2010, National PTSD Awareness Day was established by the US Senate as a tribute to John.
