What is National Sacher Torte Day?
The Viennese Sachertorte is a chocolate cake, or torte of Austrian origin. It was invented by Franz Sacher for Prince Metternich in 1832 and one the most famous culinary specialties from that country! You will know this cake as the most famous chocolate sponge of all time. The first layer is made up of three thin cakes, which are covered in apricot jam before being topped off with a thick layer on top and sides. The world's most famous cake, the Original Sacher-Torte is a creamy concoction that was made to impress. In 1832 when Prince Klemens von Metternich tasked his kitchen staff with making an extraordinary dessert for special guests he knew would be impressed by what they served him; this led them on their journey of success and discovery!
