What is National Star Wars Day?
The force is strong with this one. Get ready to celebrate National Star Wars Day on May 4th. Or is it, “May the fourth be with you?” It all depends on whether or not you like puns. Thousands of sci-fi fans celebrate Star Wars day each year. They have parties and celebrations all over the United States. The quote “May the fourth be with you” was first used on May 4, 1979. The day after Margaret Thatcher took office as Britain’s first female Prime Minister, the conservative party placed an advertisement in The London Evening News. It read, “May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations.” In 2005, George Lucas was asked on a German TV station to say a famous Star Wars phrase. The interpreter interpreted the phrase into German as Am4 Mai sind wir bei Ihnen (On May 4 we are with you). TV Total captured this and aired it on May 18, 2005.

History of National Star Wars Day
Once upon a time, in the faraway land of Toronto, there was an underground cinema where nerds gathered for Star Wars Day. A trivia contest with questions about the original trilogy, cosplay contest, and best fan films screened on the big screen. The date of May 4 was chosen for its clever wordplay.
