The postage stamp represents the ease of the United States postage system, and we appreciate its functionality on this day. The first postage stamp was issued on the 1st of July in 1847. By 1855, it was mandatory to use a stamp on any mail waiting to be sent. While the sending and receiving of snail mail has slowed has technology use increases, there are still many who spend their time collecting and appreciating stamps.
