National Violin Day - 2021-12-13
What is National Violin Day?
The violin is easily the most popular bowed string instrument in the world, and we’re not surprised to see that it has its own day. After all, everything from classical Indian music to bluegrass and jazz would be unimaginable today without the violin. It’s quite possibly the most versatile instrument in the world in terms of musical genres, and it’s been around for hundreds of years. The history of violin making in the United States doesn't begin until the later 18th century because of the low demand for musical instruments. It is believed that the oldest documented violin, like the modern violins, was made by Andrea Amati in 1555. The record dollar amount paid for a Stradivari violin on an online auction on June 20, 2011, was $15.9 million. Violins made by Stradivari are one of the most sought-after instruments by both collectors and musicians.
When is National Violin Day?
