National Winnie The Pooh Day - 2022-01-18
What is National Winnie The Pooh Day?
Pooh Bear, the beloved bear that inspired A.A. Milne’s work of children’s literature, was originally owned by a resident of Winnipeg, Canada. Given the name “Winnie” as a term of endearment for her hometown, she was eventually transferred to the London Zoo during World War I. Christopher Robin Milne named his bear after an American black bear he saw on the London Zoo called “Winnipeg Winnie.” Christopher Robin later changed the spelling of “Winnie” to its more known name, “Pooh.” The origin of the name is mentioned in the introduction of Milne's book "When We Were Very Young.” Milne began writing his sweet adventures about the beloved pair beginning in 1926.
